The man in the center of the cartoon represents Theodore Roosevelt. The bears lying around him represent the trusts that he either stopped or supported.
D Why is TR dressed that way?
He is dressed to hunt, as he made it his mission to stop bad trusts in order to curb the power of large corporations. One of his major actions against trusts was when he dissolved the Northern Securities Company.
E What is the purpose of the bears being labeled different
things?
They are labeled bad or good trusts because Roosevelt distinguished trusts as either good or bad and went after the bad ones to keep the good ones in line.
F What is the overall message of this cartoon?
The message is that Roosevelt made it a priority to end the trusts he deemed to be "bad." However, he did not believe that all trusts were bad, but rather wanted to purify all trusts.
