Roosevelt is noted for being a conservationist, exemplified by the passing of the Newlands Act of 1902, which allowed Washington to use the money gained from the sale of public lands for irrigation projects. During his presidency, Roosevelt saved 125 million acres in federal reserves. In the picture, Roosevelt is shown working on land. This reflects his policy of "multiple use resource management." Roosevelt believed that while natural resources should be conserved and protected, they should not be totally left alone and wasted.
